The most common question I get when people see that I travel is how do I afford traveling and how do I find flights? Don’t you pay over $1,000?
And the answer is never – that’s so out of my budget and I’ll tell you how I do it.
Before I spill the tea on all the sites I use to find flights I think it’s really important to understand that booking a cheap flight means sometimes booking on a smaller airline. Which is totally fine!
Searching for a Flight
When you’re searching for a flight make sure you’re searching in a private window. I usually use Google Chrome so I just open an Incognito window.
Searching incognito allows you to see the lowest flight prices. Your browser won’t save your browser history when searching so airlines can’t raise their fare on you when you’re trying to compare pricing.
Websites to Find Cheap Flights
These are a few of my most recommended sites to use to book a cheap flight!
Check them every day, be flexible with dates, and set alerts for price drops.
Be Flexible with Dates and Destinations
I don’t mean that in terms of exercising.
It’s super helpful to be flexible with dates and destinations. I’ve booked random weekend trips to other U.S states just because airfare was less than $100 not during peak seasons.
Be sure to be flexible with destinations! I wanted to go to Greece this year but the airfare was just too high. I ended up booking a flight to Amsterdam for less than $200 and while I’m there I’m taking a $40 train to France. I’m knocking out 2 countries in one trip just because of my flexibility!
Open a Travel Credit Card
Opening another credit card can sometimes be the last thing we want to do but if you like to travel there are a ton of credit cards that award you for traveling!
The first travel card I ever opened was the United Explorer Card. They offer you 40,000 miles after you spend $2,000 in the first three months.
There are plenty of others you can look into and I’ll have the full details of each one on a blog post later on (I’ll link it here once I put it together). In the meantime, check out The Points Guy for all the best travel credit card recommendations.
And there you have it! I’ll update this page as I continue to travel with more tips for saving that money.
Now book the flight and set your calendar to out of office.

Some brilliant tips here, I never knew that about searching incognito! I’ll definitely be using that in the future 😁

You made a fantastic point about searching incognito, this is something I’d definitely forget to do otherwise. So from a cash strapped single Mom, thank you for sharing!

Same! It’s really been life changing and it works. I’ve seen airfare go up when I haven’t been in incognito. Glad I could help!

Travel credit cards are so helpful! Might as well rack up those points and use them for travel! Being flexible with dates is a good one too if you can. It’s amazing how different the prices can be day-to-day!

So true. I’ve racked up a ton of miles on my United/Chase card! Agreed on the dates – sometimes flying on a Thursday/Friday is so much more expensive than during the week. Flexibility is so important when traveling on a budget!
